Abstract: After the reform obstruction, the relationship between Gorbachev’s psychological changes and the reform diversion of Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) is very important for further study of the drastic changes in Soviet Union. This thesis properly arranges Gorbachev’s recognition on reform obstruction and its facilitation for the CPSU decision on social democratization and political reform. Although Gorbachev combined social democratization and “return to Lenin's socialism” to revive the Soviet, restore all powers controlled by CPSU to the Soviet Union, and build a “totalitarian” Soviet through political system restructuring, it was on the path of a waiver of powers and denial of “party-state” of the Soviet Union.
